School of Education (SOE), in partnership with Regional Center of Expertise (RCE)- Northern Mindanao, holds its first ever Education Students’ Action Research Summit with the theme, “Improving Classroom Learning and Stakeholders Collaboration through Action and Research” on February 15 at the Nursing Amphitheater. 13 groups of fourth year and third year student researchers from SOE presented and defended their respective action research papers to the panel of judges coming from the University and RCE.

The action research papers showcased during the said event centered on topics that addressed various concerns in the field of education. Every team was given a maximum of 20 minutes to present their action research paper, followed by a question-and-answer portion with the members of the board of judges.

BS Education students attended the event as preparation for their upcoming proposals for their action research paper. 2nd year BS Education major in Mathematics Harold P. Lumayod shared that he learned various strategies on information-gathering from the event.

“Through research kay mahimbaw-an namo kung unsa ang mga strategies ang appropriate sa mga students sa ilang ability ug capability. Murag ang research is a way arun ma-identify kung unsaon bitaw namo pag deliver ang mga lessons ug unsa mga tools nga among gamiton because makabalo mi sa mga problems, so makabalo mi nga kani sya kay appropriate ani nga student,” Lumayod said.

Fourth year BSEd major in Mathematics student John Karlo Bayagna, one of the presenters in the  summit, shared how the event provided an avenue for students to share their experiences on creating their action research paper.  “It’s fulfilling for us because these studies were done kay para ma-apply ug ma-share sa uban and, at this time, ma-evaluate namo kung asa nami run as teachers ug kung unsa pa ang pwede namo ma-improve as teachers and sa mga future researchers pa,” he shared.

SOE Dean Jovelyn G. Delosa, PhD, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between educators and other stakeholders to improve the educational system in her closing remarks.
