TO: The Publishers (students of Xavier University)
Greetings!
The Crusader Publication is now hiring new staff members! Download and accomplish the Application Form on the right (left if viewed at home page) and drop it in the comment box -- along with your 1-page Resumé and respective Section Requirements -- at StC 302 between 1 to 5 PM starting Oct. 28 until Nov. 11, 4 PM. You may also get hard-copies of the Application Form at StC 302, 8 AM to 5 PM on weekdays and Saturdays. Place all requirements inside a LONG LETTER ENVELOPE addressed to the Editorial Board. All applicants must be bona fide students of Xavier University who will enroll in the 2nd Sem.
The following are the Section Requirements:
For News Writer:
- Application Letter addressed to the News Editor.
- One (1) 300 to 500-word news article on either of the following topics: (a) Chilean Miners rescued, (b) Typhoon Katring, or (c) Poll violence (Barangay and SK elections, '10).
- One (1) 500-word commentary on either of the following topics: (a) The SK, (b) Noynoy's first 100 days, or (c) Fr. Jett's presidency.
- One (1) 300-word essay explaining why you wish to join as a News Writer in The Crusader.
For Layout Artist:
- Application Letter addressed to the Art Editor.
- One spread, colored layout (8.5 x 11) on one (1) of the following Opinions: (a) "The price of fame" by John Kenneth E. Ching, (b) "10 interesting psychological facts" by Glenn Paolo A. Goopio, or (c) "Turmoil and triumph: Looking back at the Intrams" by Lyle Justin A. Egay.
- Style: 3 Columns, Garamond, Size 8 to 10.
- Optional for those skilled in photography: Hard-copies of three (3) of your best photographs.
For Cartoonist:
- Application Letter addressed to the Art Editor.
- One (1) gag cartoon on either of the following Opinions: (a) "The price of fame" by John Kenneth E. Ching, (b) "10 interesting psychological facts" by Glenn Paolo A. Goopio, or (c) "Turmoil and triumph: Looking back at the Intrams" by Lyle Justin A. Egay.
- One (1) 4-panel comic strip of a gag (joke) of your choice.
For Features Writer:
- Application Letter addressed to the Features Editor.
- One (1) 500 to 750-word article on a topic of your choice excluding (a) Love, (b) Personal Experience, and (c) Religion.
- One (1) 500-word commentary on either of the following topics: (a) The SK, (b) Noynoy's first 100 days, or (c) Fr. Jett's presidency.
- One (1) 300-word essay explaining why you wish to join as a Features Writer in The Crusader.
If you wish to apply for more than 1 position, you need to accomplish the section requirements of your other choice as well. You may apply for only 2 positions at once. For a complete list of names of Editors refer to the About tab on the menu bar.
The Application Screening will begin after the final day of submissions. Thereafter, those who dutifully followed instructions will qualify for the sectional exams. Takers will be notified via a text message regarding the examination whereabouts.
The Crusader believes in a proactive and effective student press. We hope to encourage everyone in the student body to join us in our passion for student journalism, not only to deliver truth but actively participate in the history and development of Xavier and the city of Cagayan de Oro as well.
